NOLVOSAN information.....***IMPORTANT***

JaredHorenstein Oct 08, 2007 10:06 AM

We inquired to the makers of Nolvosan. . . . in regard to the shelf life of a prepared bottle......though you would all like to know their reccomendations.......

Mixed with Tap water the mixture will only be good for 1 week

Mixed with Distilled water it has a shelf life of 6 weeks

IF you are using tap water in your mix after one week it is no longer going to be effective as a viruside or cleaner.........you may as well just be using water.

Thought you would like to know.

Thanks!

I wonder if it is an interaction with Chlorine or Chloromine?
...it could also have to do with the mineral content in tap water. Either way, good info.

Our city recently switched from Chlorine to Chloromine for it's water treatment program.
Chloromine does not evaporate out like Chlorine will.
You can't boil Chloromine out. And only special filters will remove Chloromine. But you CAN use water treatment drops such as "Instant de Chlor" (used in aquaculture) to remove Chloromine.
I treat all my water used for any animals here.
Our State Dept. Of Agriculture and the Water District warned that Chloromine is dangerous to fish, amphibians and turtles.
So, I would rather not discover that it is also dangerous to any of my other animals.
I even treat the water for my rodents!

Jared, thanks for the info on the Nolvosan.
Take care dude.

Harlin,

Great to hear from you. A question, what about well water? Yes we live out in the great state of CT now and well water is "the" water.

Good luck with your breeding this season.

Hey Kyle!

How's Life?

WELL...I hope everything is all "WELL" and dandy with you.
Everything is good here.
Yeah, I bet the WELL WATER has some serious mineral content!
I doubt you even have to supplement your animals if you use well water. Kiddin.

Take care buddy.

It may lose some effectiveness but it is obviously still better than just water. That is also if it is exposed to air like in a spray bottle. I mix mine in gallon jugs that stay sealed airtight except when used and it is solid for an indefinite period of time.

My goodness.. This is news to me, & I work at a vet clinic where we use Nolvasan all the time to prep and clean wounds. Granted, we use -straight- from the jug Nolvasan & mix it with warm water right when we use it. Is the pure form ok for longer? I would have to assume so, for the DVMs to use it. Either way, should I be slapping expiration stickers on the jugs? Thanks for the info, I'd love more!

No, it's good for years in the jug it comes in.
