Florida permits

DanW Aug 22, 2003 12:11 PM

I have maintained a small private collection of different venemous snakes for 10 years. I am thinking about moving to Florida. Is there anyway I can get a permit before moving there or do I need to get rid of the venemous and 'train' for a permit? I really don't want to lose my venemous. Please give me some advice.

Thanks,
Dan

Actually, it's easier for non-residents to get permits. Contact the Fish & Wildlife Commission & ask them to mail you the info.

I took the liberty of sending your question to the wildlife officer who is in charge of inspections in my part of florida. The following is his reply..he couldn't post up here.

Apply for the license before they come into Florida. The application can be found at www.floridaconservation.org When submitting the application include documentation of experience. Experience of at least 1 year of working with venomous reptiles and this 1 year has to consist of a minimum of 1000 hrs of hands on experience. This documentation can be employment records, letters from knowledgeable people that know of his experience. Copies of rearing logs. Purchase records going back several years. Anything that can substantiate his experience.
Include in the application the number and species in his collection and a description of his caging and pictures would be helpful. Include a check for $100 and all should be smooth sailing.
