Male? Blackthroat

EricIvins Oct 08, 2007 06:45 PM

I just acquired this guy as a fresh import about a week or so ago. I originally thought it was a Female, but since in my possesion has spurted some bulges and has brightened up a bit. I know this isn't a proper setup, but it's only temporary untill the enclosure outside is finished. So I'm thinking its a small male? Thoughts?

How is his temperment? He looks mean...

Not really mean, just defensive. Though it is starting to understand that I mean food, and has eased up a bit. I understand the fact he'll never be "tame", but hopefully easier to interact with, in time. I tried keeping some of the Indo monitors, but at the time they were way over my head. However, as I have progressed in my herp keeping career, I'm starting to understand more about the biology and interworkings of these animals ( and other 4 legged scaled critters ) and this guy really has me smitten in terms of interaction and general BS of the like. It really does seem that these things have a brain, and actually use it in terms I can understand. Put it this way, I could watch this guy for some time and be enthralled. I would wind up having to hang myself with my shoelaces if the interaction were like a Ball Python or something similair.

Young immature male. He'd like that turtle (a favorite).

Cheers,

The tail is also sunken on the sides, let it gain some weight, and grow up before trying to guess.
It could very well be male, but it may change its secondary characteristics.
Somewhat resembles a BT I had not long ago, but that BT was seriously wild and defensive, he was a big boy, but still growing alot.
