I realize this is not what you are asking about, but thought I’d see if this might work instead of a light like you are describing, which is usually just sat face down to shine through some screening or something.
I’m not sure if this would get too hot, as snakes are totally dumb enough to burn themselves. I was thinking of trying one with a compact fluorescent bulb but the bulb instructions were not to use it in an enclosed fixture(?) I would only use it as a pendant, a snake could touch it but couldn’t sit on it.

You would want to adjust the size to suit you needs, but if you lay out a square of 1/4" hardware cloth (Lowe's/Home Depot/etc) and cut a small square out of each corner then bend up each side to form a box and tie together with some wire. Practice on a sheet of paper first to get right size. Probably best to just go to Bigappleherp.com and buy one already made.
