Shell Pattern

kittyeatsturtle Aug 22, 2003 01:38 PM

I have 3 RES. when we first got them at P.J. pets *never again*
i noticed one turtle with a completely different pattern on his/her back. Just becuz they were different we decided to buy it.
I was just wondering if there is a standard pattern for the shell. mind you she is very healthy even though the weird diamond shapes on her shell.
i was hoping maybe some other might have this?
or got any pictures to show
thank you
Nicole

Nicole -

They each have different patterning. I have one that has black triangles going down the sides of the shell and a diamond sort of pattern down the center. Really cool looking. Each one of mine has a different pattern.

Steve, thank you for responding. The shells sound great!

I was thinking of buying a 100 gal tank. My turtles are currently only about 5 monthes old. When they are full length do u think that size of tank would be large enough?
Just checking what im putting my money into,
Thanks

Well it depends on their sexes mostly. 3 full sized females could make a pretty big mess in a tank that size. Do have house or do you live in an apartment? The best thing for them when they reach full size is to give them outdoor accomodations or even try an indoor pond set up of some sort. You have a bit of time to consider all the possibilities. If they ended up being males you would be "ok" with a hundred gallons as males are relatively smaller than females. More than likely you will have a mixed batch though.

Look at the picture I posted in the thread below about big sliders. That will give you an idea of how big females get.
