Mean female

Raizincain76 Oct 09, 2007 10:37 PM

Anyone ever had a female crested act agressive with another female? I introduced a female into another females cage and she got very curious and then attempted to try to bite the new female. I of course seperated them. Do they get territorial if they are left alone in a cage for an extended period of time?

It is, unfortunately, not an uncommon occurrence with crested geckos. They seem to have much stronger personalities against their own species and I have heard it is quite hit or miss to put two females together. I have heard rumors it is easier if they "grow up" together so to speak, but like humans, if they meet later in life they may or may not like each other and there isn't much you can do other than keep them separately.

So the short answer is, yes that is, unfortunately, normal for cresteds.

yes, and yes.

i have witnessed a female dominate another female to the point of pseudocopulation.

you can try cleaning out the tank, sterilizing it to get rid of any scent markings, and rearrange the furnishings, then reintroduce the geckos.
