Salmon breeding question

russianbaby007 Oct 10, 2007 03:41 PM

We have a female salmon (probable super salmon) that we will be breeding this year. The thing is, we are not sure what male we should breed her with. The males are:

-Kahl Albino
-Anerythristic
-DH Snow
-Normal

Just wanting to get some input and see what the best pairing would be.

Thanks,
Anya

I do not know what you consider the most desirable babies to produce. So below is the result of each or the four choices. The results assume that the salmon actually is a super salmon and that it is not heterozygous for any recessive mutants, like albino and anerythristic.

-Kahl Albino x super salmon -->
all babies salmon heterozygous albino

-Anerythristic x super salmon -->
all babies salmon heterozygous anerythristic

-DH Snow x super salmon -->
all babies salmon 50% probability heterozygous albino, 50% probability heterozygous anerythristic

-Normal x super salmon -->
all salmon

Any of these matings would serve in a test to see whether or not the possible super salmon female actually is a super salmon. Get over 12 babies, and if all are salmons, then I'd call it a super salmon.

Mating with the Kahl albino would be best if you want to get into sunglows eventually.

Mating with the anerythristic would be best if you want to breed ghosts eventually.

But that is my opinion. YMMV.
