national geographic looses credibility..

SnakesByDesign Oct 11, 2007 12:23 AM

LOL: I was just watching "Taboo" on the national geographic channel. A child describes (while laughing) how he got nipped by his pet ball python and the narrator immediately says that the bite wasn't bad...the snake is "not THOUGHT to be venomous." and later adds that the ball python easily has the ability to kill a child.
I might expect that on fox news, but national geographic?

are you sure it was a Ball Python?! National Geographic doesn't seem like the company that would mess that up. They are renown for their great animal knowledge.

lol totally expect that from FOX lol...

or when they refer to a venemous snake as "poisonous"

Last time I watched anything about snakes on National Geagraphic and they quoted poisonous snakes having sharp teeth, I havent watched since. Bummer, seems to have gone downhill huh?

Narrator: "The number of venomous snake species is over 2,000 which means the vast majority of snaks commonly kept as pets ARE poisonous, though not all are deadly."

Who wants to add up the mistakes here?

try to remember that the ngc is for tv and ng is a mag. big difference. the mag has better fact checkers, and is better for info. the ngc is for tv watchers and assumes (correctly) that the viewer is ignorant. READ the mag. turn off the TV. and please, if you cant spell VENOMOUS dont rip ngc for incorrect info.

Yes I loved that line. Scientists just discovered that there are 10 times more venomous snakes than they previously thought so naturally all of us herpers are keeping venomous snakes that we didn't even know were venomous. I also loved how they went into great detail about how the guys 3 foot ball python was going to escape in the middle of the night and hunt down and strangle his kids.

I think I'm glad I missed all this.

Seems to me most of the shows about snakes these days are designed to make the general public more scared than they already are...should be more educational. Not to mention the pitiful acting of the host...seen the previews of the one coming up later this week?

Ugh.. I had the unfortunate chance of seeing the same show.. I think the family being interviewed knew how ridiculous everyone was making it sound. It seemed the kids couldn't stop chuckling through the whole thing. & the BP they displayed "easily strangling a child"? Maybe if it had a personal vendetta.. & a lot more knowledge of human anatomy than we give it credit for..

It was a very sad thing to watch on the NG Channel........terrible info, terrible narration, terrible how they try to scare people instead of educate them...

Poor choices on the big wigs parts for putting that garbage on the air........

As a whole NGC is pretty good for me anyway it beats movies . Only reason I have cable is for NGC-animal planet and discovery ,TLC
Sure some shows add some "spice" to things but as a whole they are good.
They had a good one on African pythons while back had the ball and its "habitat" was well done actually not sure if NGC or another one .
