I dont know if anyone can help but...

no one in the aquatic frog forum is responding. If anyone knows about fire belly toads, or just frogs/toads in general, I could use some help. I have 2 fire belly toads in a 10 gallon aquarium and there is brown algea all over it! There are about 4 gallons of water in the tank and a large rock as their basking platform/the land part of the tank. I also have a few plastic plants in there. I keep an aquarium heater set on 80F in the water and a 75 watt reptile light fixture over one end of the rock. I have a bunch of 10-20 gallon aquarium filters for fish tanks but none of them will work in an aquarium with that low of a water level. i also know that you cannot put in any kind of algea eating fish in the aquarium because of the toxins these toads release. I change all of the water probably once a week and scrape all of the algea off every time i change the water but it still comes back! can i put any kind of algea killer product that is meant for fish tanks in there? or is that potentially fatal to toads? also is there any way to keep moss from molding in the cage? it looks so pretty in there and they love to hide in it but it starts to decompose after about 24 hours! thanks for the help!

oh by the way, I have found homes for some of the baby dragons. plus the lady wants to raise them herself so I don't have to buy so many crickets! yay!

Try the "frog" forum - fire bellies are considered semi-aquatic, I think, and really a frog (although the common name is certainly misleading! LOL!). I've read lots of posts there about fire bellies, and I'm sure they could help you. Sorry I can't!

You could always use ammo-lock which would help nuetralize some of the toxins in the tank. I'd recommend getting a duetto filter to help filter the tank, they're about 20 dollars online. The other thing is to make sure when you do water changes is not to use hot water or anything. If you have gravel or sand, don't rinse them in hot water or cold water. When you scrub the tank, scrub it while the tank water is still in there. You don't want to kill all of the beneficial bacteria growing. Also, do like 75% water changes instead of all of it at one time. You want to keep the bacteria as intact as possible.

Also, with the basking light AND the heater, your temperature is going to be quite high which just speeds everything up. Try turning down the aquarium heater to 70 degrees. With the basking light, it's going to get well above 80.

yeah, go to either the frog or toad forum. Temps are probably too hot to grow moss in, and I would say no to the ammo lock. I never use anything but hot water to clean out my amphibians set ups. And yes to the Duetto filter, Or there is one called Sandshark that works great for me. Sorry this is off the beardie topic for you guys. I am new to this forum, but I know my frogs. An off topic pic also, of my most cherished frog.....Pepillo. He is a Pachymedusa Dacnicolor, or a Mexican Giant Leaf Frog.........

How big is he? He's very neat - my daughter is the frog girl in my family, but she's slowly pulling me into it....
