Matzcal and the use of Possible Hets

Jon_Mitchell Oct 11, 2007 01:37 PM

I have a metzcal question as well. I have installed the program and I think it looks like it could be awesome. I am working with some 50% and 66% Het balls that I would love to get into the software but for some reason, I can't get Metzcal to recognize the Het. gene. The manual says to use something like Na but when you try, you get an error saying that that is an unexceptable format.

Anyone got any clues on how to set up the possible hets?

Thanks in advance....

I've never used the program, but I'd assume you can't. The thing with posible hets is that they either are or they are not. The percentage is simply what odds you have, not that they carry 66% or 50% of the gene. The point is to hope they are, but if they don't prove out, they are simply normals. You can't put it in as a het or a normal yet, because you won't know til you breed them.

I appreciate it. I should have thought of that but I was two busy scratching my head. One thing that I can't do either which I should have said in the other post that I can't do 100% hets either.

The manual says to ise Na as a het but it doesn't take.

Anyone got any ideas on this one?
