cypress vs aspen

fantasyxbabygurl Oct 11, 2007 08:34 PM

Ive heard of both being used. I believe the cypress was said to look the best. I dont know much more about the two or even what they look like.

Considering for both boa and corn snakes.

Also ive only seen mentioned a few time coaco shells. Has anyone used this?

i never used aspen b/c it does not look as natural as cypress. for my boa & ball i use cypress mulch & peat moss mixture. the cypress is very inexpensive & looks better to me. i would def go with the mulch, even for the corn.

When I use loose material bedding (anything other then paper) I use a 2 part cypress mulch and 1 part aspen mix. I do this because using straight cypress tends to make the moisture/humidity levels stay on the high end (which isn't a bad thing all the time, but if where you live tends to have a high humidity level it can result in fairly soggy bedding.)

I'd go with cypress over aspen.

cypress looks better by far. it also will hold up to the moisture better than aspen.

as far as dust is concerned, both are dusty if they are dry but aspen is by far more dusty than cypress.

have any of you ever had to clean a feeder mouse tank at a petstore? well, when a liquid(water or urine) is added to the aspen it packs down real well and then molds up very quickly. i've never had aspen get moldy unless some veggies are left in the tank too long or i discover some turds under logs or other tank decor.

and at last i never did and still dont understand why people use aspen to house their snakes(typically corns, milks and rats)...i know it works...there are lots of people breeding their snakes on the stuff...

hahha. should have read that over a bit more...i've never had the cypress get moldy unless their is a turd or veggies left in the cage
