What do you think????

reptile_king Oct 11, 2007 10:12 PM

This baby just hatched from a Het Ivory/normal clutch. Has a clear belly and blushing down the sides. Looks like a pastel het ivory even though no pastel was used to produce it. Check out the head. When I saw it look out of the egg, I was very suprised. Like most cool babies, it does have a major flaw: large kink in neck. Has not shed yet.

Thanks for looking

David

You messed up somewhere or there is a case of retained sperm somewhere along the lines...but that is definately a yellowbelly pastel jungle cross.

And a nice one too.

Here is the ubiquitous request for pics of the parents........let's see what ya bred and figure it out for you.....

You sure one of the parents wasn't just a ugly Pastel

reptile_king Oct 11, 2007 10:59 PM

Totally normal female which was bred to a het ivory male. The 3 other siblings were normal.

Well can you post a pic of parents so we can get a better look. Either way thats a dynamite snake you got there

Does either parent have a pastel in its line? Maybe some genetic pastels don't show the effect much.

Assuming neither are a pastel incognito:

"Like most cool babies, it does have a major flaw: large kink in neck"

Maybe it's a classic jungle yellow belly. The one classic jungle I hatched was apparently a stressed egg. He came out without absorbing the yolk properly and had a bit of asymmetry to his head but was nice to look at.

An odd baby on a breeding loan this year also didn't absorb the yolk right and may also be an odd classic jungle combo.

Both where much smaller than their siblings. Here is the “just” classic jungle:

And here is the one that might be classic jungle combined with a new broad fading pattern gene to make it even more extreme. Happy to report this girl is now eating on her own but was difficult at the start. Like the other she was small and didn't absorb her yolk properly.

Send her over here..........

I got a special boy for her

She is nice to look at (although I've only seen pictures). She is from a breeding loan but I've got one of her sisters to look at in person. Glad to hear that after a slow start she is doing well now as I'm sure she also has the for sure inheritable part of this breeding regardless of whatever else she may have on top of that (either stress induced classic jungle or perhaps something genetic from dad if I’m wrong in the above theory of why she is different).

This baby did not absorb it's yok sack as is much smaller then it's siblings.

Yes, I'm thinking at least some of what we call classic jungle is some sort of egg stress. Not sure what causes it but betting all three of these animals are classic jungles. With yours the yellow belly is disguising it and with the 2nd one I posted the as yet unnamed and possible not unique broad patterned gene is making yet another different look combined with classic jungle.

Here is a shot of a premie that crawled out with much of the yolk left in the egg(A knotted up umbilical cord was the culprit.)
I too was thinking it was a pastel(Since there were two sires...pastel and a yellowbelly..but none of the other eight were pastels, and it did have heavy pattern on the belly,so...

No,she didn't make it...I was devastaded!
(Did all i could do,but i think she was seriously screwed up internally...she never digested/passed waste.)
