Question

Do all blackthroats have that dark black patch on their throats. I recently acquired what was supposed to be a baby blackthroat monitor. But when it arrived yesterday, I noticed that it does not have the black patch at all. Nor does it have the typical bright coloration of the blackthroats I see pics of. Maybe it will come with age, it is only about 8 or 9 inches right now. Can anyone help me out with this?

I think you got a white throat (albigularis albigularis)
The black throat are (albigularis microsticus) they are mostly imported from Tanzania and Mozambique.

I think he meant he ordered a Varanus albigularis iondesi (most commonly seen albigularis).

Steve - how's everything going? Anyways microstictus doesn't come into the pet trade to often and most people call them Whitethroats. I'll have to post pictures of mine soon.

Pictures would help us in seeing which subspecies you have.

Cheers,
Chad
