That's what I was thinking. Out of all the plains garter snakes I caught this year she had the brightest colors and "cleanest" pattern and was the only radix I kept. She seemed to brighten up even more after I had her for a couple months too. I'm hoping to get a snow male and two double het. females next year and probably won't breed her to the snow male until 2009. I have read that they can retain sperm so maybe she'll have another batch of normal babies next year (has anyone had this happen before? also, do they ever "double clutch"?). She only had two live babies this year and four stillborns. Unfortunately one of the babies escaped a couple weeks ago when I built a new rack system so I've only got the one baby now... Hopefully I'll find the other one soon. Both of the babies took to pinky parts immediately (one of them needed them scented with earthworms though) and the one I still have is feeding great every three days and growing like crazy. They're such fun snakes to have, it's a shame they're so often overlooked by reptile enthusiasts.
Here's a picture of the babies not too long after they were born. I wasn't expecting them so the cage was a little dry. After I moved them to their own cages they shed the rest of their skin just fine...
