Took the little guy outside today, snapped a few pics. He seemed to enjoy exploring the yard (closely watched, of course.) Man, it's tough to get good pictures of a black snake! Any hints/tips would be appreciated.

Nice pics and you like taking them huh? cuz I like seeing them
I thought outside it woule appear a deep and silky black but it didn't work (first pic color was awesome) like I thought it would but you can keep practicing and I'll keep sending some replies lol. Taking pics of my rainbows I take before sunset but the sun overhead seems to work best and that is too hot here but I like taking pics in the shade for my hypo bci's though cuz it washes out all the shades of maroon and make them look blood red and the pinks are gone and it sucks but maybe it's me

For being so tough, you have some pretty nice pics!
My only advice is experiment, different times of day, different lighting, different camera settings etc. It's digital so film is free!!!

You have nice pics. You may want to try pics using a medium to even dark gray background (t-shirt or sweatshirt). This will not be such a contrast vs. the black snake. Even if you find a great background the lighting will be critical. I would think a cloudy day may be better for the black snake when you are taking pics outside. Just keep taking pics and posting them - we will let you know when you hit perfection!

Yeah, bright sunlight didn't work as well as I thought it would, even with a white background. (Took about pics just to get a few decent ones.) I think cloudy day will be better.
Thanks!
