green light at night

ronald_durst Oct 13, 2007 11:54 PM

Im trying to heat my snake closet at night. Temps have been dropping down to 70ish lately since its gotten colder. First winter in this house. So i put in a green flood light bulb. 100 watts. Is this gonna be too bright and simulate sunlight therefore messing up the 12hour photoperiod? I also have red. MY next resort would be to use the heat pads i have. Im just not sure about them being under glass....Cracking. Any advice? Thanks

I would just use Ceramic Heat Emitters, they put off great heat and no light.

I agree with the CHE's and they're supposed to be easier on the light bill

Those babies are HOT . I used to use them when I lived in the North.
Less electric bill because a 40 watt CH bulb gives off much more heat than lets say 60 watt regular spotlight .

You need special ceramic socket fixture for them and make sure it cant fall and start a fire or nothing in the closet near it can catch on fire .

Ofcourse I mean the other person who posted this not you .

I don't quite get what you're saying -- are the enclosures 70 degrees all around with no kind of heat device? There should be a heat gradient: 90-92 on one end, 80-82 on the other. The undertank heat pads are far better than anything overhead and it won't give off any light. They won't crack the glass as you need to have them controlled by a thermostat -- as should every heat device should be. Adding those should easily solve your heat problem.
