Blood from vent - weird shed

ScuteChute Oct 14, 2007 10:59 AM

My ball shed a couple days ago. It was a perfect shed except for a tear around the vent area. I picked her up and checked her out, everything looked fine except for a hair-thin "line" of blood coming from her vent... well, it was kind of under the vent scale. I didn't see any stuck skin or broken spurs or anything like that. I used a papertowel to wipe at the vent - going 'with' the scales - and managed to get it outta there, and i didn't see any further bleeding.

two weeks ago i switched her from a glass terrarium to a tub rack system. i used shredded coconut in the tank, and i'm using shredded aspen in the tub - she completely cleared her hide box of aspen the first day in the tub, so i stuck a paper towel under her warm-spot hide box for cleanliness. there's a moist box with that same shredded coconut in her tub, and she jumped in there a few hours after the weird shed incident. she DID take a dump tho, which was something i was worried about. I checked out her poop - that sucked - for pieces of skin or something obvious, but didn't find anything unusual...but i don't dig thru her poop usually.

she ate yesterday, and i can't see anything unusual near her vent anymore, but i thought it'd be best to ask.

If she pooped that is probably what the blood is from, if I remember corectly that happened once with my big female when she was young in the same situation. She shed and left a very large "suprise" for me and I noticed a very small amount of blood with it, but everything was fine and it hasn't happened since. hopefully some others will post but I would say that it is normal with the poop and not to worry about it.

I have noticed small amounts of blood near the vent areas when my balls have shed before. I believe it is most likely just the shed pulling in a very delicate area. I would keep an eye on it. My snakes were fine afterwards.

that is a normal thing, nothing to worry about

it freaked me out the first time I saw it years ago

I even put my snake on the scanner so I could get ideas of what was going on

here is what mine looked like
