Depends on the wattage and how close to the basking spot.
I use a 100 watt mv with a 60 watt spotlight on the basking spot for my panther. The MV keeps the overall temp right, and the spot gives enough extra for a good basking spot around 90 degrees. they are suspended about 4{" from the screen on the roof of her cage, and her stick is about 6" under the roof. Sometimes she likes to bask upside down from the roof right under the light (about 95 degrees) and that's why it's suspended.
