How about you DON'T feed it to him at all. and stick to WHOLE foods like crickets, roaches, pinkies/mice.. you get the drift....
I had to respond to this.. as I am new to kingsnake and monitors and if you were to read just one page of this forum you would realize that a monitor is not a dog,human,pet.. so you don't feed it things like beef, turkey or dog food. grr *shakes head*
Ashley... who is rather cranky today
Like Ashley said only whole foods. I feed my Sav crickets, roaches, and fuzzies. Good luck and take good care of that monitor.

Just in case you need another opinion, count me as 3rd on the list for "nuthin' but whole prey items."
Have a good one!

Due to political correctness run amuck,
this ol' hillbilly is now referred to as an:
Appalachian American
Can I be 4th on the list of 'whole prey only!!!'? Just for fun?
Cheers, Lance
I'll be the 5th to say bugs/rodents is the way to go but if you must feed meat on VERY rare occasions ground beef is one of the worst meats you could feed a reptile. They do not digest beef fat very well and it makes a nasty mess on the other end. I learned this with turtles when I was like 11 or 12 and I'm 39 now. It's that messy that I only made that mistake about twice and still remember the mess all these years later.
Hello GK,
Feeding a raw meat from time to time would probably not hurt the monitor. The trouble is that it is easy to make this process a bad habit- one that will kill your lizard. Whole prey items are composed of many different proteins that provide nutrients and function to your lizard- many of these proteins are not even fully understood by science- all are important... When you limit your lizards diet to specific protein sources like muscle meat, your lizard has lost out on everything else. Whole food items with an emphasis on rodents is the recipe your lizard will benefit from. Best to you- Mike
I believe Ill be the 8th to jump on the 'whole foods' train.
Ill also be the first to say this: Do your research before asking questions like this- there have only been, oh, you know, TEN BILLION FRIGGIN POST ABOUT THIS ISSUE! lol
Take 5 minutes, use the 'Search Forum' option before just throwing a post up; if possible that is.
But yeah, no human food.
