Baby ball question......

mavh2 Oct 16, 2007 12:28 AM

Does anyone have any suggestion on how I can get baby balls to eat on their own? Currently I only hav 1 baby that will eat anything i drop in with her. But the others don't even make an attempt at the hopper... shoul I just leave them alone a little longer? thinking the babies just may not be hungry.

What does everyone think about this?

One thing I found with babies is that they are very nervous and very scared. They're new to the world and don't know anything about people yet -- so to them, you're a HUGE scary predator and they don't want to put themselves into a vulnerable position by eating with you around. I found that my hatchlings did best when I dropped the prey in, covered the front of the rack with a black towel, and shut the lights off in the room and left for 20 minutes. When I'd come back, the prey would be gone. This gives them darkness and privacy without any motion or anything to scare them. After a few meals like this, they start to feel more confident and will eat no matter what. Good luck!

I agree with Jen, make them feel secure and give them time. You should have very little problems with that approach.

"you're a HUGE scary predator " - Have we met before?

Just joking... I'll try what you said on Saturday.
Thanks again
