bearded dragon new owner questions...

nancyefrusy Oct 16, 2007 08:34 AM

hi everyone,
i just aquired a bearded dragon from a neighbor. they say he is around 8 months old. he is EXTREMELY small. he is only about 6 inches and is not very wide. he looks like a baby in comparative pictures. they got him in august from someone who was not feeding him very much. they said he has doubled since they got him. details...he is in a 55 gallon tank, seems to have all the correct lighting, they were feeding him 1-2 times a day about 10 crickets at a time. i think it may have been closer to 1x a day. so....my questions are...should i feed him 2-3 times a day(crickets) as you would a baby since he is so small? when do they reach "adulthood"? from what i read, he should be about 16 inches right now. do you think he will be stunted from lack of food and is there anything i can do now to help him grow even though he is reaching adulthood. he is literallly the size of a getco.
thanks for any help you can provide.
nancy

Well when my beardie was small he ate about 60 or more crickets a day. I feed him a few times a day. The numbers you talking sound as though he was beign starved.

You say you feel the lighting is correct, may want to check the temps and uvb light to make sure it's all right. I would suggest you run over to the bearded dragon forum and run this all by them, there are so many experienced people over there that would surely help you with you little guy.

I wonder since he's so small if he could possibley be a Rankins dragon???? Heres the link, let us know how you make out!
