Hey, for some reason while I’m sitting here sipping my hot chocolate this question just popped into my mind.
What is the maximum number of healthy box turtles you think an individual without the help of other people could properly care for?

I personally found more than one to be hard! But I never had an outdoor pen for them, and cleaning the indoor housing of just one turtle was enough work. I think the more you have, the more you need to go to zoo-level standardized procedures. Some individuals might be capable of this and might even prefer it.
Just depends on the time you are will to take and money to spend.
We started with one three years ago, and now have almost 30. I get up at 6:00am to feed and walk the yard pens. Then in the late-afternoon weed fill ponds cleanup etc.StephF on this site helped me with advice to save the first. It is the most rewarding thing I have ever done, and happiest I have ever been. Thanks StephF ---
All of ours are rescues are road hits, dog chews,2 burn cases, one shot with a .22 gun, and one so deformed he couldn't eat on his own for 6 months but now he can eat everything he wants (picture of him eating his first cricket).
If you have the time, space(outside is best),and money a small group (3 or 4)is not so bad. Maybe keep girls and boys apart so it doesn't get out of hand.
Of course just my opinion

Impossible to generalize on this: I've met people who shouldn't even have ONE, let alone more than that, and I've met other keepers who have dozens who do a terrific job with them.
I currently have 9 Ornate in my back yard. It takes me about 10 minutes a day to refresh the water trays in the various spots in the yard. It also takes about 15 minutes twice a day to give food. If i am running late in the morning, or work late during the week I can let them find there own food threw out the day. I think free range of a yard or outdoor pens makes things a little eaier as they can always find food digging around in mulch around flower beds and such.
