Just my opinion............and a quick question

taralynn_hughes May 22, 2003 11:50 AM

I have been a member of this forum for about two monthes, and I must say......it is a god sent. We purchased our veiled from a pet store that gave us ALL bad advice. It was very beleivable because the lady had chameleons. We also got a chance to meet the man who breed our chameleon, and he too gave us bad advice. The people on this forum know what they are talking about. So many people veiw this forum without posting. If someone gave bad advice, there would be tonnes of posts correcting the information that was given. I honestly beleive that if it wasn't for this site, that Roan would be dead, and not as happy and healthy as he is. I check this web site everyday to get the updates on Zoe's and Orion's health, and see what is going on in the world of chams. They really become an obsession! When I have questions, I usually search the forum because you know someone at sometime had the same question you do. I think this is the greatest site!

And now my question. We just got some wax worms in for Roan. I know they are high in fat content, eqivalent to our twinkies, but he deserves a treat! I just want to know how may we should give him at a time, and how often. The last thing we want is a fat chameleon. He's a little over 3 monthes old, and growing fast. We fed him two today (and did he ever love them) but when should we give him some more? I was thinking two every 4 days or so. What do you guys think?

Thanks

I think one every other day is ok, especially if he is growing.
I give my guy one per day but he is recovering from MBD and needs the extra fat right now.
The worms also make great medication tablets if you have to give your cham oral meds. I have never had my cham reject a wax worm.

this forum IS great. And so are the people who are in it!
Thanks for your concern about Orion! That's very sweet of you. She is doing wonderfully. She is getting so big not that when she steps on a leaf of one of her pothos it moves! She isn't a little feather anymore!

Chameleons love worms! Yes you are correct about waxworms being the most fating bug you can feed your chameleon. Here is a great article to read if you have not already www.chameleonnews.com/year2002/sept2002/nutrition/nutrition_sept_02.html I would feed them only a few per week, they also love silkworms and silkworms are the BEST food you can feed your chameleon, I use them as a staple diet. You can get them from www.mulberryfarms.com and also great deals on www.ebay.com Hope this helps!
