Silicone not curing

mezmerize Oct 16, 2007 10:37 PM

Hey everyone i've just put together a viv for my ball python. Naturally the last thing i did was use 100% silicone caulk to seal the edges an corners. that was about 4 days ago and the caulk still is not dry. Does anyone know why it is not dry yet?

The temperature of the area it is in is upper 70's. Tha package says cures in about 24 hours

If nothing was on the surfaces that could've contaminated it, I'd say it's out of shelf life or just a plain bad batch. The tube of silicone should have a shelf life date on it.

If it comes into direct contact with water that could do it, too. But humid air shouldn't affect it that much. I've used to caulk many showers with water all around, and as long as water didn't get into the silicone bead itself, no problems.

Let me know what you find out, if don't mind.

Hang in there!

Just last week I was in one of the big do-it-yourself stores and saw a whole box of silicone on the shelf that was two months out of date already.

I came close to getting it and just as I started to walk away something told me to check the date. Whew!

Later!
