Egg-Bound Ratsnake

kballard Oct 17, 2007 10:06 AM

My female Russian Ratsnake has a hard mass down near her cloaca. She hasn't been eating regularly for awhile and seems very lethargic. I haven't tried breeding her yet. Is it possible that an infertile egg could be egg-bound? How do you get it out? Any help will be appreciated.

The first thing I would try would be a warm bath.Dont let the water get above 98 degree's.If your russian is like mine and at room temps start off with cool water then gradually increase the temps.Let your rat soak and get active. The warmth and movement should get your rat to expel whatever is in it.If it doesnt I would make an appointment with a vet a.s.a.p.
