AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION 08 October 07 WA steps up cane toad fight
The Western Australian Government will stump up an extra $1 million to fight the march of the canetoad towards its border.
Half of the money will be spent trying to find a biological weapon to kill the pest.
The news has been welcomed in the Kimberley region, but cane toad expert, Dr Paul Sharp, believes the funding has been allocated to the wrong place.
"We shouldn't be talking about a limitation on money at less then $1 million, it's just peanuts really.
"The situation is where the toads are right now is the ideal opportunity to stop them with a combination of physical barriers and toad busting and that's the opportunity that should be focussed on and forget biological control at this stage it's not relevant," he said.
