VPI Black Axanthics

Tracy Barker Oct 18, 2007 06:59 AM

I think these may be one of my favorite snakes we have produced over the years. These are a simple recessive and have a unique look. The black is solid black and the grey is charcoal. The snakes themselves seem to be "mini" looking when you compare them to other hatchlings. They are very strong feeders and are quickly growing from their 35 g hatching size!

Thanks Ralph, I appreciate that-and yes those melanistic snakes do seem mini to me also! Here is a pic of mom on eggs-the clutch was 7 eggs weighing 440 grams!!

Wow - I'm in love with that snake....

So it it a different line of axanthic or is the base snake (het) so dark there is very little yellow to wash out? Is there another dom/co-dom involved or is that a secret?

I'm with Ralph - that would make an AWESOME pied....

Thanks for sharing!

Jen

No secrets here (I'm on the no secrets on how to make things side!). These are a simple recessive, well actually I'm just assuming that because I bred axanthic to axanthic, I have not bred them to any other snake. I got the original 1.3 as babies imported from Africa.

I'd be very interested to hear when you eventually get hets and grow them up if they also lay small eggs or only the homozygous females.

Hello Tracy,

Was mom the standard 1500 grams when bred?

Wow, those are great. By far my favorite Axanthics so far.

Are those compatible with other forms of axanthic or is it too early to tell?

Vic.
