question about substrate

antr1 Oct 18, 2007 02:22 PM

I keep my snakes on aspen and usually buy it in bulk, but ran out and went to the pet store to get a bag to hold me over.

I keep seeing this "Douglas fir with eucalyptus oil", from I think it's Zilla products?

Isn't douglas fir just a specific type of pine? Is douglas fir any less harmful then standard pine?

So why would they market it to snakes and reptiles?

Pine won't hurt your snakes, cedar will.

Funny, but there's a lot of speculation that it isn't good. The pine oil can cause respiratory problems as well as liver problems.
