What really grinds your gears?

JoshMolone Oct 18, 2007 11:23 PM

Of the subject, but I just went to some Caverns in San Antonio, Tx. I was curious to know if they ever find any snakes. So I said "Do you ever see snakes around here?". She said "Yes, but the ones who chase me, I dispose of them." Come on! What is wrong with her? They are in the middle of nowhere and she kills them. I just wanted to post this to show how ignorant people can be!

Thanks
Josh

Disposing of only the ones who chase her???

What is she the pied piper of serpents? I wish I had that problem...

Are you sure she wasn't just pullin' your leg cause yer not a local??? Texans are wierd like that.

And don't forget that most people are really not that comfortable around reptiles. Things they fear they seem to destroy.

Ignorance? or Human nature?

JenHarrison Oct 19, 2007 01:22 AM

Just don't go back to Texas. Unless you already live there...if that's the case...sorry for you...

In all seriousness, a lot of people have an unnecessary fear of snakes -- just like people have an unnecessary fear of spiders (me being one of them). People usually fear what they don't understand and their first instinct is to kill something that scares them so it can't harm/scare them anymore. I kill spiders if they're in my house -- outside, I could care less, they're free to do their thing out there, that is their world. But I don't want them in here. Killing snakes in the outdoors is just wrong...that is THEIR home, they have the right to be there.

Do you have something against God's country????

JenHarrison Oct 19, 2007 01:43 PM

We spent a year down there in Killeen and I tell you I would never go back to Texas for any reason, even if my life depended on it. I loathe that state.

There is a lot more to Texas than Fort Hood. What state are you from by the way?

You should know it's rude to ask someone what state they are from. If they are from Texas they will tell you. If not there is no reason to embarrass them by asking.

Now that's funny right there, I don't care who you are.....

Yeah and it's also rude to butt into other's people's conversations. You bastion of etiquette you. There's no shame in having pride in your state. I am a native Texan and so what? Very few states are as rich in history and culture as Texas not to mention geography and natural resources.

I agree -- I think I need to go feed some snakes too...except I haven't had time off to go meet up with my rat guy to get any rats.

Yes, an old joke I heard growing up in Texas. Spent most of my life there and am trying to get back.

AnthonyB Oct 26, 2007 02:19 PM

And no other state holds a large event to go hunting for and killing snakes. Then later on serve them up to people.

JenHarrison Oct 19, 2007 11:06 PM

Yep, and we went all over the state. I still hate it.

I'm from Wisconsin, and I refuse to ever leave this state again. After having been in Texas, both Carolinas, Missouri, Kansas, and Maryland, I realized there's nothing better than staying in the north where we have actual seasons and normal people. LOL! Although Maryland wasn't bad, except for the bad drivers. I liked it out there.

You should try NH. Same with the bad drivers but at least we have nice foliage & cool critters to look at.

When we were stationed in Maryland, it was exactly like that. Horrible drivers and kind of ghetto, but very pretty scenery and area. I loved D.C. and Baltimore.

haha my wife still claims to this day that when she was younger she was always chased by black racers... you'd be surprised how many people claim that around here....

SydBarrett Oct 19, 2007 02:31 PM

I wish snakes would chase me more often, personally i have never seen it but have heard the same stories... But i agree with you about killing the snakes in the cavern. Is it some kind of cave tourist site as I imagine? If so she might be the one killing off all the undiscovered cave dwelling snakes!

RandyRemington Oct 19, 2007 06:24 PM

I knew a guy once that had all sorts of unusual snakes (some weren’t even ball pythons if you can image that). He had some sort of large Asian rat snake that when he would get ready to clean its cage he would put on coat and gloves. When you opened the door it would launch out and chase across the room at you and bite like crazy the whole time the cage was being cleaned. Not common action at all for a snake but quite an experience to see.

rbchesapeakeball Oct 19, 2007 04:33 PM

i was chased by them twice when i was a kid.

We have plenty of Red Racers here in Arizona. I used to take care of a captive one and it would just keep striking at me. Also I read that they can travel like 18 mph. I don't know if that's true, but I do know they are FAST!!! Of course it always went in the opposite direction of me.

Yes I have caught a black racer, and let me tell you, I never will again. I got bit about 50 times in 10 seconds and the thing pooped and smeared it all over my arms. You can have those!!

levi987 Oct 20, 2007 12:49 AM

yeah they are pretty mean....but thats part of the fun....but man that name....thats why so many people think that they chase them...she probably saw one...it moved a bit and she ran, she just read the thread....she's defending herself by saying we're not snakesperts, and we dont have degrees in snakeology....haha I love her tho.
