Mexicana group breeder's directory..

Joe Forks Oct 20, 2007 10:12 AM

The directory is up. Think of this thing as a phone book "yellow pages" type thing. Nothing more, nothing less.

Participation is voluntary. You must ask to be listed. Sorry to Shannon, I needed your listing as a first in each directory as an example for what we'd like to see. Shannon you can send me your line information if applicable and I will add it to each category.

Hybrid breeder's are welcome to be listed as well, I'll need the same information and a brief synopsis of the hybrid types you breed and I will add your listing.

Format, colors and such are not set in stone. I'll be happy to change it up as you guys see fit.

I'm doing this for all of us. I think we will all benefit as breeders, buyers, and sellers. I don't expect any offspring in the near future so I won't be listed for several years. So that is not why this was created.

If you want to be listed, e-mail me through the contact link on this post.

Nice to see someone take the initiative to put this in action. I think it's a great idea. However, something does need to be done about the color. It might just be my eyes, but those blue links on that black background are killing me.

I'll be sending you some info.

Brad

A few names keep coming up pretty dominantly, Bob Applegate inparticular. If Bauble, Bodner and Bates site Vivid and Applegate there really isn't as much diversity out there as one might hope for!

Also have an open question

Is the "Lorado line" the same as Vivid's earth toned line?

Tony,
I have to defer the Laredo line question to those better acquainted with the subject.

On your observation, I was noticing the exact same thing as well. We will be converting to a database format real soon which will enable us to sort that data in any manner of ways. For example by area code, zip code, state, species, or line.

1.2 of my “old line” of thayeri was indirectly acquired from some Doctor whose name has been eluding me for some time. I lost my stock spreadsheet in a hard drive crash about 5 years ago so I've got nothing to fall back on.

Anyway, if memory serves the guy was supposed to have been the same who brought in the original stock that produced the albino rutheveni, if anybody can throw out some names it might jump start so stalled synapses!

MichelleRogers Oct 22, 2007 10:03 AM

Hi Tony, was his first name Mike? I have spoken to a few people that used have older lines from a Dr, but all anyone can remeber is his first name was Mike.

The Laredo line came from some confiscated animals that John was very lucky to acquire.

Here is a quote from one of Johns's posts below

"We also have a few F1 animals from some conficated animals that we call the Laredo line"

Doesn't sound like we're talking a distinct line that originates with John.

BobHansen Oct 22, 2007 01:32 PM

Tony:

My understanding of this, based on emails from John, was that he acquired confiscated animals seized at the port of Laredo--hence the name "Laredo line"--but whose origins were unknown. We do not know who collected the snakes, where they were obtained, nor even if they were taken from the same area.

Cheers,

Bob

Tony,
The thayeri I have been working with over the years came from Applegate and Sipperly. Where Sipperly got his stock from ....who knows. For sure the yellow male you have from me comes from Applegate and the buckskin from Sipperly. The third female is an offshoot of a combination of these (more animals related to Applegate). I have only ever owned one VR snake (male orange leonis like yours).

For the record, Applegate animals by far are bigger, more robust animals than any other thayeri I've owned and seen in any collection. By the way, have you gotten bit yet?

Russ

Tony D Oct 22, 2007 08:59 PM

Not bites yet. So far he's been dog tame.

shannon brown Oct 23, 2007 02:53 AM

applegate, sipperly, limburg, Lemke, steve Little,Jim vaverka, steve Hamock, steve Henderson and a few others all had thayeri back in the 80"s and 90's. They all came from the same stock probably and were swaped around allot.
I think that Frank Reetes and a few others brought them back in the 70's and 80's.

Tony D Oct 23, 2007 06:35 AM

Back in the day that was my take as well. It seemed that all these guys at least had access to founder stock but they're was some trade in CB stock between them as well. Speaking of Sipperly is he still around?

shannon brown Oct 23, 2007 12:01 PM

yep, Gary is still around. I see him once or twice a year.He still dabbles in snakes and comes by the shows out here.

Shannon

Tony D Oct 23, 2007 01:44 PM

That's cool. he was a good guy. Thought a lot of his dad too! Used to get a kick out of him making over the young women at the shows!

shannon brown Oct 23, 2007 10:32 PM

yeah, Bill is still like that.LOL....
good times man,
Shannon

RussBates Oct 22, 2007 06:38 PM

very similar names keep coming up under everyones name....interesting eh! Don't know Bob Johnson or Abbott but I do know they were attending Daytona back in the day when Sipperly use to setup shop at that show. Wouldn't surprise me at all if their stock orginiated from the West Coast.
