name given to a corn showing the wild type aka normal phenotype. That is, they look like the wild corns do, and can vary a lot in their looks, but usually a red orange blotch, outlined in thin black on a silver to orange background.

wow, we sure have come a long way when people no longer know what a normal corn snake looks like LOL

As already mentioned, normal corns are what you would find in the wild. However, wild corn snakes do have alot of variety, which brings out the locale phases (not actual morphs, but natural selection over many many years produced a slightly different look). There are a few, but two that I know of for sure are the Okeetee phase, and the Miami phase. The okeetee has bright orange-red saddles on a ligher orange (I think LOL) background, with thick dark borders around the saddles. The picture to the right in the corn snake forum, is an example of an okeetee. Miami phase has grey/cream background with orange-red or orange saddles.

A google search for normal corn snakes should bring all kinds of pictures of normal corns.

Can't think of a better time to show pictures of the beauty and variety of "natural" corns.
I prefer natural to normal....nothing normal about them!!!!
just a few hatchlings and adults here.
Remember okeetees, keys and Miamis are all "normal" or "natural" corns as well.
I didn't include any photos of okeetees. I wanted to keep it as "normal" as possible.

Here are just a few pics of some wild-caught cornsnake variants from Central, and South Florida.

* cornsnake in the tree......from Southern Brevard, County on the eastern coast of Florida.

* Cornsnake(Miami phase).... is from Broward, County just north of Miami/Dade County in Southern Florida.

* Cornsnake(aberrant hypermelanistic Miami phase) is also from Broward County, Florida.

enjoy!, ~Doug

Is that a w.c. hypo or just an outcrossing?

I'm not sure I understand the question...........none of them are hypo.

If you are referring to the weird looking aberrant Miami phase that has alot of dark pigment, she is HYPER-melanistic(more melanin than normal). Her background color is much darker gray than normal, and also has VERY dark black pigment on one half of her body in certain areas.

And yes, they are ALL wild-caught animals. I caught them myself.

best regards, ~Doug

Sorry I misread. The last one does look almost hypomelanistic though.

the hypermelanistic is awesome!! I love it! can you make more?

jusmebabe Oct 21, 2007 05:51 PM

Just kiddin lol.
I'm not really into cornsnakes with the exception of Okeetees which I think are one of the best looking snakes of any species.
Now I know when I see normal cornsnake with no pics I don't have to wonder what it looks like. Thanx guys and gals and PHLadyPayne you aren't very nice (just kiddin again).
