Pied feeding/breeding question.

wh00h0069 Oct 20, 2007 07:28 PM

I have heard rumors that, some lines of pieds, are not good feeders and don't breed until their 4th year. Is this true? What are the best lines to work with. Is this just with pieds, or het pieds also? I am asking because, I am looking to buy a pied male soon, and would like to know which lines are the best. Thanks in advance for all of your input.

I have never heard about poor feeders or late breeders associated with any particular line. I CAN tell you that I have a male pied from Roussis Reptiles and he is stud ('06). He also has some of the best color I have seen. In my opinion Roussis produces a great line that you can't go wrong with!

Great. Thanks. I will keep that in mind.

I too have a Roussis line male. BUT he is an '04 that weighs 600grams. ONLY eats ASF rats. LIVE! He does have great color and pattern though. So as you can see it not the "line" but rather the "animal" that is the poor feeder/breeder.

I got my het pieds from Cypress Creek/Tom Carlton. They bred at 2 yrs old producing 9 eggs including 4 pieds. They bred the second year producing 8 eggs with 4 more pieds. I held back a pair of pieds from that first clutch and bred the male at 2 years old, producing 3 clutches of het pieds this year. At two years old the female is now around 2000 grams and her 5 year old het mother is around 4000 /- grams. I've never had a problem with my pieds or het pieds. I also kept back a 66% pos. het from '06 that is 1300 grams. I can not comment on any negative experiences with pieds. They are and always have been my favorite morph. Good luck.

Great thanks for the post. I can't wait until I get one. I have been wanting a pied since the first time I saw one.
