Stopped Eating

RicRat Oct 20, 2007 11:26 PM

My BP, approx. 3yrs old, stopped eating about 4 months ago.
Last time was in June. Prior to that he ate about every 2 weeks good size fresh FT rats.
He was also a "pig". He never hesitated to snatch them up. I even had to dodge him a couple times. Now he just looks at them and turns away.
Everything else seems normal. He moves around his home, he soaks and sheds in one piece. He looks healthy and not losing noticable weight.

He is in a 50gal. aquarium, has a couple hides and a soaking tub with a lid and hole to get inside. I use astro turf for easy cleaning. The temp is in high 80's on warm side and high 70's on cooler side. He has a heat pad on the side and a lamp above. I do have a harder time with humidity, it is usually between 40 and 50%, but he never has a problem with shedding. I guess the soaking helps. We usually know when he's going to shed as he soaks for a couple days prior.

I am really starting to worry about him not eating and would hate to have to force feed him. Which I don't think I could do.

Any advice or info. would be greatly appreciated.

Bp's well offten go off feed. For the breeding season. Usually during the summer months they will eat. 4 months is really not to long for a adult. My females go 6 months. As long as he is not Visually losing weight, just offer food every few weeks. Eventually he will eat. I live in pa and this summer was tough for feeding because the temps were so up and down. If it was a nice hot day they ate. If it was cooler they do not eat. The only suggestion I can make Is I would put the under the tank heating pad under the tank so he had belly heat. That helps in digestion. They need on the hot side at least 88 degrees. That may or not be the problem. I would move that and just keep trying.
