mojo4ca Oct 21, 2007 01:52 PM

Hi E1
i have just got moss to make a moist hide for my gecko and i got a few questions. #1. it says to keep 10 to 15 percent water when wetting the moss now im wondering how long moss can stay in a butter container/hide?and how often doe sit need to be changed? and #2 does moss go bad after awhile if it dont get changed? #3 do i need to keep the moss in a sealed zip lock bag or something which is kinda same question i asked bout if moss goes bad and needs to be sealed?

If you seal the moss, it will negate the point of having it in the hide. My gecko doesn't like the moss, he kicks it all over his cage. Like most others, I just use paper towels in my humid hide..they work wonders, are cheap, and easy to change. Spray 'em every night and you'll be gold.

Like the previous response i use paper towels as my Leo was not to happy with the moss. I had some issues with shedding but since i switched to paper towels and moist them every night my Leo has not had any issues at all. I change mine once a week. I would stick to paper towels to be honest

Hi Mojo,
I keep moss in for my pictus and they love it. Watch the moss and replace it when it starts deteriorating- turning darker color and falling apart. I noticed mine starts to go around 6-10 months. If in doubt, change it, moss is so cheap.
By the way, isn't the tiger picture like having a parakeet and putting up a background of snakes and eagles and such?

I would change your setup around. First, those bowls take up way too much room. Also, you want a hide on both sides of the tank.
