Better today

Linda G Oct 21, 2007 07:05 PM

Ichabod came out and basked today. He also ate a few greens,
birdseed and some dandelions. Not a huge amount but it's
a start. I think it is the new Active UV that came yesterday
that helped. Do you guys think 106 is warm enough on the basking area or should I add another heat source? For some
reason, the regular light bulb seems to keep it more steady
at 120 degrees. There seems to be fluctuation with this one??

Just wanted to say thanks again for everyone's help!

Linda

Good to hear! 106, though, is on the low side. Rather than adding another heat source, why not raise the basking spot closer to the light?

Be careful about raising the basking spot since you're using an MVB bulb. Don't go closer than the recommended minimum distance on the box. If you cannot raise the basking spot, then an additional bulb would be in order, since his basking surface temp must be at least 120F for good health. Most of my MVBs cannot provide a high enough basking temp (this will be different in every cage), so I usually supplement with a halogen nearby.

Good point. We still use old fashioned basking bulbs ( affordability ) & my suggestion was based on them. Should've read Linda's post closer.
