Okeetee corns questions......

ajfreptiles Oct 22, 2007 08:31 AM

I picked up a small group of Okeetee corns and noticed that they are not all created equal...lol....I am just wondering if there is a way to tell which ones will color up the best? This one although in shed is about the brightest one I have....will she get brighter? Is there just no way of knowing?
Thanks Andy

only real way to know, is raise them for a year, and THEN make a decision. It really IS hard to know when they are babies. Knowing what the parents look like helps...

when looking at hatchling okeetees I look for the ones that look more like anerys. The darker the better.
If the parents have decent colors and you can find one that has almost completely black saddles as a baby you can bet/hope it will turn out with nice black borders and the parents' colors.

You know she might be pretty good for your okeetee project.
I might have to loan her to you when she gets old enough...

Not a bad idea....I'm always open to stuff like that.

When the time comes, I could always let him breed my females early in the season and then ship him to you so you could use him a while

ANdy

All Okeetees will get brighter and more colorful-just which ones will has a certain unpredictability about it ...but there are a few things to look for. Scout out the ones with the highest contrast, thick black borders around blotches-and if you see one that almost looks "anery" as a hatchling, then keep it!
