Boa soaking in water bowl

iggygirl6 Oct 22, 2007 09:12 AM

I have a 6-month old Hogg Island X boa, and for the past couple of weeks, I have noticed her spending more time soaking in her water dish. There have been several mornings when I have gone to check on her, and she was soaking her entire body in the water dish, with only her head above water.

I have never witnessed this behavior before with my snakes, but the only other snake that I have is a ball python and I know that boas and balls have VERY different behaviors. So I am wondering if this is normal boa behavior? Is she soaking in anticipation of shedding, or is this just something that boas do more frequently than other snakes?

Could be normal but check the water for mites!! looks like little pepper flakes. If no "pepper" than expect a shed soon.

I have two that soak prior to shed and once shed theyll return to soaking a day or so after and take a massive dump in their tubs.
