Lets try this again, 07 poss het bloods

Warren_Booth Oct 22, 2007 11:43 AM

Here are some of my hold backs from my July 4th litter. The sir was a 100% het, the female was a 66% poss het, both from Rich Ihle. No bloods in the litter this year, so I will try again this coming season. I have bred 100% hets together in the past and not hit on the homozygous trait, so we shall see. The litter exhibited incredible striping, as can be seen in the holdback male and one of the females. The appetites of these are incredible. So, hopefully in a couple of years I will be able to prove these out. Given the majority of the litter being striped, and the predominance of this in the Salmon boa blood collection, I am hoping this is a genetic trait.

Absolutely beautiful. Striping like that is hard to beat. Can't wait to see that in a Blood.

I agree AJ. Once its in the blood I need to get that into the Anerythristic Type II. Now that would be stunning I think. Think of the contrast.

Hey Warren, you are right to try them again, many of my pure Bloods have come out very striped as well so you might be onto something and just "missed" this year.

Best of luck with your breeding projects.

cheers, John

Thanks John,
I don't give up easily on a project. The worst case scenario, I have a 100% het male and a nice normal proven female. Looking at the striping it has to be genetic. So thats not a bad worst case scenario.

The pair are back together now, so we shall see what next season brings.

I believe people are to quick to give up after a breeding such as yours when they don't achieve their expected outcome. They get depressed and bummed out. They start selling their animals off at that point because to them they were a waste of their time. It's sad because the possibilities and surprises that come from these breedings are what makes breeding boas exciting. You didn't hit on the Blood boa this time but you got the crazy striping and aberrancies. That gives you all new possibilities. Trying again as you are so correct in doing can give you the pay off in more than you were looking for with just a "Blood" boa but "striped aberrant Blood Boas. Well worth the effort. Good luck. I'll be one of the people in line for that.

Take care,

AJ,
Even if I do not hit on the blood again next time, if Igot a female crazy striped like the male, man, that would make me happy. Give it time for me to get these into the T centrals and they should be stunning.
This striping is insane and a great project to be working on.

Oh, and remember that boa I told you about a few days ago. Well, I picked her up last night and she is insane. The tail is pure orange. She is an incredible pastel. I will get pictures tonight and send them to you. She is going to make an amazing breeder.

Now, that's the right attitude. Finding a project that excites you whether or not it follows the popular vote. You know what I'm talkin bout!

Can't wait to see that girl. Something amazing will happen there to.
