keeping pueblans and/or Andeans in FLA?

fliptop Oct 22, 2007 11:48 AM

Just curious for those that keep pueblan and/or Andean milksnakes in FLA--how do they fare in the high humidity? Do you need a special setup to keep them healthy and happy?

Thanks!

I lived in south Florida for many years, and raised/bred both Andean and Pueblan among many others, and they seemed to do just fine when kept in the same environment as all the others.

However, I DID brumate my andesiana at somewhat cooler temps just for good measure......I'm not sure it was absolutely necessary for breeding success, but considering their natural montane environment in the Andes Mountains, I figured it might be beneficial.

Keep in mind that the mountains in Colombia are pretty humid in the warmer months.

Pueblans, although they are from a very arid region of Mexico, seem to be one of the most prolific of snakes to breed in captivity.

If you plan on breeding these subspecies in Florida, I don't see a problem at all.

best regards, ~Doug
