The forum is kind of slow tonight, and it's been kind of slow for a couple days. I noticed there are less posts now. Well as for my season, well this was my first season breeding and i only got 4 eggs from my female and all have hatched! The last two eggs hatched dis morning at 1:00am.

I haven't been around much either, but I'm planning on posting more.

My season was mixed. I hatched out some killer hypo tangs - way above my expectations, so that was cool. My melanistic project was a non-starter - about 1 million normal babies born. LOL. My stripes JUST started to be gravid - so we'll have to see about that. But I had an incubator problem, and lost most of my eggs (over 50) - lots of BB hets - my mel/het albino stuff - tangs - mels. So that was a major bummer. But I'm only in it for the hobby - so live and learn, I guess.

Its good to hear from you!!

Hobby or not Monte, 50 eggs is a lot to lose. Sorry to hear that, I lost 3 eggs this year and thats 3 too many. I hate throwing eggs out I hope you have no problems with your stripes when they start producing.

. . . .because it was locked on a different setting. It sat at 97 degrees for about a week I estimated.

About 1 week before they were supposed to hatch, they would deflate and die. It was sad, but totally my fault.

I did hatch out some really nice tangerines - and now I have a few stripes going so it's ok.

Thats alot of babies!!!!!!!!!! How many breeders do you have to get that many babies in a season? I don't even have a breeding pair yet, but i hope to and maybe have hatchlings next year.

Congrats on all the success and i'm sorry to hear about the huge loss!

i think 1 million was a bit of an exageration, lol.

If every female laid say 10 eggs that would still mean he'd have to have a ton of breeders....... Are there any breeders out there that have a huge stock of leos (or any other herp for that matter) or do they have limited numbers while trying to develope specific traits/morphs? How diverse a population do most of the larger breeders have? When they are going for morhps etc, they do alot of breeding back to the parents right?

i would guess that Ron Tremper probably has the most breeding leos, but thats simply a guess. i don't think anyone can produce 1 million leos in a year. i doubt that they can even produce that much in the wild. actually, maybe, thats mind boggler. Ron Tremper has developed most of the morphs, i think. Prehistoric Pets probably has a ton of breeders, and they've come out with blizzards, and blazing blizzards. i think it was a smaller breeder who got the first patternless, but not sure.

. . . but when you are shooting for melanistics - and everyone that comes out looks a real butt-ugly normal (normals are nice, but these were hideous. I had to tie a wax-worm around their neck just to get the hypo tangs to play with them) - it looks like about 1 million. LOL

I didn't think Ron was all that big of a breeder when he first got albinos but he was obviously a much better businessman then whoever came out with patternless because I'm not even sure who that was.

Josh06 Aug 23, 2003 09:33 AM

I havent been posting that much recently either. I have just kinda been lurking. I sold all my leos except 2, had to because I was moving. So, i just got 2 normals left, they were my favorite. I'm not really sure if I will get back in to leos when I get settled or not, I was actually thinking about starting up with bp's in about a year or so when I can afford some pied(maybe something else) hets.

Mine is going well so far I have 11 eggs incubating still at least one is getting ready to lay again of which I have 4 eggs incubating from already and I hope she lays many more I got her from Rob Jenkins (Spot) is her name she was bred with a hypo tangerine before shipped. I have 3 double het. for Tremper patternless albino eggs incubating from a proven breeder group I got from crested gecko.com (Garrick) and I have 4 that were layed from normals I think some might have been laid by a high yellow coloration normal. I suppose 4 should be hatching very soon (2 hypo tangerine x normal and 2 normal). Also this is my first year breeding. Yall have a good day and thanks for reading my post.
