Question about breeding mice for food

nahrie Oct 22, 2007 08:35 PM

I've been thinking of breeding mice for feeders, (I've done it when I kept them as pets in middle school), but I'm trying to figure out how I would want to stagger the breedings between pairs to keep a good supply up. I'm thinking 2 or 3 pairs, how far apart should I breed them to feed my nelsons, who despite being over a year old, is less half the size she should be? (former owners severely starved her). Thanks for the help!

If you only have a couple snakes, a local pet shop would be the best option. As far as breeding mice, I have 1 male to 6 female per bin and I promise you they do not all drop babies at the same time. Gestation is a little less than a month. You should make an effort to get your snakes on frozen/thawed. Once thats done you can keep your pinkies frozen til needed and it won't matter when your mice produce. Remember garbage in, garbage out. Feed your mice a quality lab block. I also feed oats, corn and sunflower seeds to my mice......they are happy til the end.

Best of luck
