Breeding weight for a female Black rat?

carol Oct 22, 2007 11:30 PM

Hi folks!

Simple question, what is an acceptable breeding weight for a female Black rat? I have a female who is 400 grams now and I'm wondering if she'll go next season. Thanks!

400 should be plenty. I use the same rule of 3 as with corns. 3 years old, 3', and 300 grams....

On female black rats, 42 inches is the magic number.

Thanks. I was thinking about breeding one of my smaller ones last year. She was around 38" or so. She looked more than healthy enough to lay but I decided to give her another year anyway.
