I've seen mine eat several times but by the time I get my camera she's done. It's funny she'll eat the mice from the head, from the tail and from the middle lol. quicker than spilotes poo on a shingle.

now I'm having a hard time finding a nice central american male to hook my little girl up with. banding all the way to the tip of the tail. any leads would be greatly appreciated

Yeah, these guys don't really care which way they eat it!

As for CA locale animals, I haven't seen any at all. Only Surinams and Guyanas floating around.
