Brad Boa asked me almost a year ago why we didn't make a pedestal with drawers in it. That was one of the best questions anyone ever asked me. So I set about doing something about it. Here were the first ones I had to incorporate into existing in place pedestals that I did NOT want to move:

Dusty but you get the idea. These things are working absolutely great for me already.

Then I have lots of 421D cages that I wanted to do virtually the same thing to but I knew I would have to remove the old pedestal and get all stacked again. Here is what we did for these:

I actually have my own cages stacked six cages high on the pedestal. Makes the entire stack about 7 1/2' tall.

The best tub option we could find is the Rubbermaid 2221 Blanket Box tub which is large enough for all but the largest of my male Boas.

I like the looks of them too:

Plus the racks are just deep enough to allow a 1 1/2" thick sheet of Styrofoam to sit on the pedestals and insulate the back of the cages against other cages or against a wall.
The real reason I did this is it saves me a TON of work. I used to keep males a long way from the females during breeding. This way I can just keep my males right below females and anytime I want to move a male in for breeding, he is right there! Just below to be moved in to do his job. Great idea Brad!
What do you all think about this idea? I am still working through my options for that necessary center panel. I wonder how many other people might like a set up like this one. The one bad thing about this is that the thousands of cages out there that are currently sitting on the old pedestals like mine were, are all going to wish I Brad had suggested this a whole lot earlier. Great job Brad! Now you have a whole lot of people made at me...
