My own personal opinion is that there are only so many people who want to own snakes and the have only so much money to spend on it. Plain and simple.
All these people talking about growing the market, really are living in a dream world. What you saw "The irrational exuberance", a few years back was driven by a smaller group of people thinking they were making wise investments. That was driving the Ball craze and was unsustainable.
What you have now is probably a better situation for a small to mid-level breeder. You are not going to make a million dollars with $300 spiders, but for a minumum investment you can make some decent cash selling snakes for a price more people can afford. The big guys, the ones with large buildings and 2k worth of heating and lighting bills, staff, workmans comp., etc.. and large web-sites to maintain are the ones who have to worry. You have to sell A LOT of $750 Super Pastels to cover that.
The Ball craze only benefited a very few...the rest got taken to the cleaners.
Those are the cold hard facts.
