Supers...

EmberBall Oct 23, 2007 04:59 PM

We all know the Co Dom market is fairly unstable. The prices of Pastels have now come down to below $100. Now that the Super forms of the Mojave, Pastel, Yellow Belly, etc., have come down to a fairly affordable price, it seems to me that the mass production of the "Het" forms is soon to follow. Is every Co Dom going to be $100 sooner than later because of the Super form? Can the Spider NOT having a Super form, or no Super Pin, actually BENEFIT the morph in the long run?

You would be correct in thinking that....

But i think you are forgetting that there are combos... not just suppers... So in answer to your question the spider and pinestripe will drop as well and be seen in pet stores soon as well... you have bumblebees, killerbees, spinner blasts etc. that basically double as the super form.

Prices will always continue to drop as long as there are new combos morphs coming out... But there is more behind it than that...

This is not your typical market.

My own personal opinion is that there are only so many people who want to own snakes and the have only so much money to spend on it. Plain and simple.

All these people talking about growing the market, really are living in a dream world. What you saw "The irrational exuberance", a few years back was driven by a smaller group of people thinking they were making wise investments. That was driving the Ball craze and was unsustainable.

What you have now is probably a better situation for a small to mid-level breeder. You are not going to make a million dollars with $300 spiders, but for a minumum investment you can make some decent cash selling snakes for a price more people can afford. The big guys, the ones with large buildings and 2k worth of heating and lighting bills, staff, workmans comp., etc.. and large web-sites to maintain are the ones who have to worry. You have to sell A LOT of $750 Super Pastels to cover that.

The Ball craze only benefited a very few...the rest got taken to the cleaners.

Those are the cold hard facts.

I'm certainly no BP market expert, but I sure can appreciate your opinion Zefdin, who needs sugar coating, not me!

I wish I made as much money as I had projected this year but I have had fun . I have a coworker at my real job that have a $30,000 bassboat that hasn't been wet in 2 years. Harley Davidson motorcycles they ride 5 times in the summer.( it's cold up here)I have spent more than I would like to admit on my snakes. It's hard to make money when you want to keep everything you produce . And I want more . But I am having fun. I'm not in the bars. I'm in the basement. LOL . My snakes are my fun . I just wish I could talk to more people about them . My coworkers don't understand . But they need a bigger boat . Claude

I got new snow shoes for christmas, snowed twice here really, barely used. A new Trek mountain bike for my birthday, snowed the next day. An X-box 360 with a dozen games I'm bored with, a Nintendo Wii with half as many games, either beaten or bored with, and a few more this month I want. I have a PC, a laptop, and an iPod. Etc Etc Etc....

What did I do tonight? Clean and admire my snakes. I think my albino female is the prettiest thing I've ever seen, and my normal females are some of the most gorgeous I've seen.

And where am I now, on Kingsnake with my first snake around my neck, not playing with my other toys.

Want to talk about making money? Enjoy what you do first.

i have to agree with you on this one. i make good money with my job, i have nice toys, but the happiest i can remember being (since the birth of my children) is when the wife finely said yes i could get a snake!!! my x box and playstation are getting dusty, have a pile of parts to install on my car.......but i would rather sit and watch "stripes" go from hand to hand untill it finds the perfect spot to lay. its been a week thus far and i cant wait till tommorow when i find out what the sex is. i know i know i should have know the sex before i purchased, but my wife wasnt done saying yes yet when i was out the door and pulling out the drive way haha.
