Rat Bedding...

uf_g8or Aug 23, 2003 12:32 AM

Currently I use CareFresh bedding for all my rats and have been producing alot of rats. The only problem is that the bedding is quite expensive. I was wondering if anyone used Yesterday's News (I've heard it being used before, but it is a type of cat litter material), which seems to be cheaper. CareFresh works great but is expensive so I was looking for an alternative possibly.

Or should I stick with CareFresh since I've had good luck with it. Any other good inexpensive beddings (I'm not wild about shaved wood beddings)? Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I use rabbit pellets (alfalfa). Works great, with 2 rats in a 32 Qt. sterlite tub, it lasts 2 weeks. Then becomes mulch in the garden.

It costs about 8 to 10 bucks for 50 lbs. I use a layer about 3/4" deep.

shredded aspen mixed with pine for the last month or so..

it works great!.. less smell.. better nesting material.. the only drawback is PRICE.. shredded aspen can be as much as $18 for a 6cubic foot bail.. where as a 10cubic foot bail of pine is $4.99 here

take demaks advise.. try rabbit pellets (alalfa).. it works great!

50 lbs of rabbit pellets also takes up less space, which for me is at a premium. If I had room for both, I might try mixing pine and rabbit pellets.
