A fun thread!

sleepygecko Oct 24, 2007 01:05 AM

I've been answering doom and gloom messages too much, so I'm going to subject my two favorite boards to a fun thread:

What is the strangest/silliest/quirkiest/unique thing your leo does?

When she was young she was really bothered by the reflection of the glass so we put some children's construction paper on the inside of her enclosure. What we didn't realize was the crickets could climb up it, but she, of course, could not. She would follow a cricket up the wall, stand tripod with both back feet and her tail supporting her and then hop and bounce on only her tail trying to get that one last inch she was short of grabbing the cricket.

Let's just say her name came easily from her bouncing habit.

Who's got a good story? I know leos are the hams of the gecko world.

Mr. won't let anyone but me hold him. Funny thing is, he totally tricks people. I can hand march him for 10 minutes, and if some one puts their hand in the "next" position, he'll put an arm forward like he's going to step off, and then turn around. It's hopeless.

It makes my girlfriend pretty sad..but I just laugh.

My female Hi Yellow does a tail curl wag thing when another gecko is present. She thinks she is tough. I have read that only males do the talk curl wag thing, but she does it all the time.

Um, well, the first leo I had liked to use his tail as a shadow puppet, if you can believe that! When there were lights on in the room, he'd look at the back of his enclosure and wag his tail around in the air, casting a moving shadow on his back wall. We got a lot of good laughs out of that. Also he was a pervert - it was quite clear that he was attracted to my girlfriend's breasts - whenever she'd lean forward near his terrarium, there he'd be, staring up at her cleavage. Silly gecko, but he was lots of fun. I still miss him...

Well, let's see.....
I had one hatchling that spent the first 10 minutes after being placed in his new tank running around the walls screaming at his own reflection. Literally, 10 minutes of straight screaming! LMAO!
I have one crazy girl that constantly strikes, opens her mouth and lunges with seemingly no aim. She also has been known to leap from the tripod stance. She also tends to use her tail almost prehensile-like.
I have Tremper male who loves to check himself out in the glass. he'll spend minutes just looking at himself and licking his eyes.
But my fav so far was a little girl named Caroline, after a famous Outkast song. She was about 2 months old, and had learned my feeding routine of dusting crix and dropping them in the tank from above straight out of the clear plastic bag. Well she got all excited that food was coming and watched carefully as I started dropping crix in. Well one got stuck a little less than an inch from careening out of the bag. She saw him struggling to climb back up the bag, but apparently couldn't wait. This little thing jumped straight up like 6 inches and makes a spot-on strike! There she hung, feeling no doubt the cricket struggling within the plastic sandwich in her mouth. She hung there, shaking, for a couple minutes, before she dropped off, leaving a perfect semicircle of itty-bitty bite marks in the side of the plastic bag, and nice slime of gecko spit. It was so funny, I was tempted to take a pic of the bag.

Ok, these aren't really my geckos, but Im staying with a friend right now and she's got 4 leos. One adult male and 3 babies.

The male gyrates. Yup. And he also likes to nosedive down my friend's shirt. lol

The 3 babies do backflips. They're amazing.

Here's a picture of the adult. His name is Sunny.

Shadow Puppets! How funny!

I've seen that "I'm a bearded dragon" pose before and it is funny.

Backflips? Really? Oh, I wish I could see!

Oh, and the ziploc cruncher, that is too funny, our little girl ran up into the cricket shaker one time after one of those amazing leaps. she wouldn't come out! I'm laughing so hard at the picture in my head of the ziploc "shark" bites!

Thanks guys, you really cheered me up and reminded me why we all love these crazy critters so much. Thanks for the stories, I hope everyone had a good time reading them and if you think of another, please post it, leos are such hams... shadow puppets.... Oh boy...

My littilest leopard gecko will make a "RAR!" sound if you put your finger next to him/her and then try to hit your finger with it's head. It's so cute :P
