red and green oak leaf??? organic frisee and lolla rosa....

lissag25 Aug 23, 2003 01:19 AM

so i picked up this nice box of "organic spring mix" at the supermarket today and when i got home i start to read the ingredients and they had things like chard, mustard, radicchio, argula..etc.etc.. but they also included red and green oak leaf and organic frisee and lolla rosa.. i don't know how good these things are for my beardies and frankly i have never heard of eating oak leaves or a lettuce with two first names (lolla rosa). spike my fussy eater just loves these spring greens mixed in with turnip and collard greens..does anyone know if they are good, bad or otherwise..

you think i should stop using it..how sad..it even came in a nifty little plastic box(i'm a sucker for cool packaging).

thanks alissa

Lolla Rosa and red & Green oak leaves are all different kinds of lettuce. Lolla Rosa has the red frizzily leaves. All these are ok to eat, but for a dragon variety is best. Mix up the salads a bit don't offer these every day because they are lettuces. High in moister low in nutrients. Once in a while these mixes are fine. I use them with collard and dandelion as staples and throw in some of the bagged salads for added variety.

Yea when I buy the mixes I pick out a lot of the lettuces....

then add some other greens like collard greens to the bag and then put it back in the veggi bin.

BTW: with one dragon I hate the way stores tend to sell collard greens and swiss chard in only the "super jumbo family size" dang if I had a dozen dragons it would be ok....
or if I had more interest in some of these kinds of greens...

Now Green beans .... Yum.... I can buy several pounds of them and they never go to waste.... to bad asparagus and broccoli are not so good for the dragons....

didn't think they would harm him or have any lasting effects if fed in small amounts.. i just never heard of them.. i usually have a base of collared, mustard, and turnip greens and add the spring mix to the top with other goodies like peas or snap peas and strawberries..
