What the Heck is it????

kevine Oct 24, 2007 03:57 PM

My corn snake has not been eating and I noticed it about a week ago regurging, only it regurged a little puddle of mucous. I have noticed over the course of a couple of weeks "regurge puddles" for lack of a better word. This morning this was in the enclosure. It has the consistency of soft cheese. It has the shape of a worm, but no head. ANY IDEAS?? Thanks. Kevin

I'm not sure exactly what that is, more than likely a putrified(rotted) meal, but I AM SURE it's not a good thing!.....I would advise you to have it checked out by a reputable reptile vet as soon as possible.

unless regurgitations are diagnosed quickly, they can soon lead to the snake's demise.

His enlosure does smell kind of sour. Its about 80 degrees in the room and no, there doesn't seem to be but only the occasional fly. I have isolated him in a hotter tank though and oddly enough when I put him in the new tank he regurged the same looking thing in the same mucous only this time there were a couple specks of green in it. Thanks for the replies. Kevin

And collect some of the mucous "blobs" to bring to the vet.

That way, they can check it to see what it contains! in the way of pathogens, amoeba, protozoa, etc...

This might mean putting them in a "zip-lock" plastic bag, or something similar and putting it in the freezer so it can't decompose and become useless till you see the vet.

hope the snake gets better!

DON'T FREEZE IT!!!!

refrigerate the sample.

Freezing destroys tissues making the sample useless.

take your snake to a vet, consistent regurgitation means something is seriously wrong.

don't freeze sample or dead snakes for necropsies.....

.......

........get flagyll and see if that works......

...ask the vet........

Only refrige it. Freezing kills things that help figure out the problem. Put it in the frig.
