This came up over the NARBC show weekend between Kara Glasgow, Ryan Norris and myself. We felt the 12lb range is minimum for any of the three short-tailed python species for minimum breeding weight. Age would be 3-4yrs. Males can go earlier at around 18 months but size is variable. I know Bob Garby and I spoke on this and males as small as say 6-8lbs can do the job. Not sure how fertile they are at this point. I prefer older larger adults to breed since I notice long-term problems with most pythons species. The older the female/males produce higher fertility and larger clutches over the long-term.
